Authors Note: This is a short piece to get a 9 or higher in theme.
The poem “Big Yellow Taxi” is about a girl that grew up in a town that was paved over and was turned into a big city that she then grew up in. For “Field Below” it was gain about a girl that grew up in a town that was remade into a large city. Both authors had a meaning to write these songs. For “Big Yellow Taxi” it was written because she grew up in a big city. So it started out with a lot of land and nature, but seeing how it is now a city, she uses “They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot” to show that it lost all the beauty and nature. For “Field Below” it is about the same thing, she grew up in a big city that started beautiful with nature but they took it away with putting up the city and ruining the beauty. For both poems, the tone would be sad because they missed their “paradise” of the nature.
For both of the poems the mood was different from what I expected from the song. “Big Yellow Taxi” was a happy song but sad words so I had some mixed emotions about that poem/ song. But for “Field Below” it was what I expected because I thought it was going to be a really sad sounding song. The piano of the song in “Field Below” really made it sound even sadder. The mood and tone of both songs would be sad because they both lost their nature that they missed.

Why Paintball Will NEVER be in the Olympics
Authors Note: This is a 5 paragraph essay to get a 9 or higher in all areas of organization.
Could you imagine two countries that have been in war with each other shooting each other in something that is watched worldwide? Well I’m sure you couldn’t. If paintball was in the Olympics it is likely that somebody could get hurt or die. For instance, if we had an American team play a team from Iraq something would not turn out good. There are many reasons that it would NEVER be in the Olympics and there are not as many reasons why it should.
Although paintball is a sport that many countries play, it will NEVER be in the Olympics because the Olympics was made to show how a country is superior via their athletes, because the Olympics is t promote peace and non violent things, therefore if you have two teams of people shooting each other there is no sign of peace in there especially if it is from countries that have had a bad past or present with. For instance, if there is an American team against a team from Iraq something bad is bound to happen. There are also many other reasons why it will never be in the Olympics.
Secondly, if paintball was a sport played in the Olympics it would probably ruin the ratings because most people don’t know that paintball is a sport. So if paintball was in the Olympics, a lot of people wouldn’t see it as a sport and they would probably change the channel until they think it is over. But saying that paintball isn’t a sport is almost like saying baseball isn’t a sport. But they both are, they both need teamwork, communication, they are point based, and involve movement. Although there are reasons why it won’t be in the Olympics there are some that would make it able to be in the Olympics.
But even though it will most likely never be in the Olympics here is a reason that could make it eligible to be in the Olympics. This could happen because it is a sport that many, many, many people play, not as much as baseball, basketball or football, but there are a lot of people who still play it, yes, paintball is a dying sport, but putting it in the Olympics could help that. This is a very exciting sport to watch, so if it is in the Olympics more people might watch it and get interested in it and try it. With them at least trying it, it will keep the sport alive and active.
In conclusion, paintball will most likely never be in the Olympics because it ruins the idea of the Olympics being peace promoting and such. And it will most likely never be in there because it isn’t a very popular sport. People always think that it will hurt too much, or it will ruin their clothes, but neither of those things is true. It washes out of clothing and it doesn’t hurt at all. So yes, there are some reasons that it could be in the Olympics but there are more that cancel those out and will make in most likely never in the Olympics.

How Free Were the Free Blacks in the North?
Authors Note: This is a 5 paragraph essay to get a 9 or higher in all areas of organization.
How free were free blacks in the North? This is a question many of us have asked ourselves. This is a question that is opinion based really; it depends on what you think. I believe that they weren’t free enough. Sure they were ‘free’ but they weren’t free to do as much as the whites could so technically they weren’t free enough. I believe that they were not free enough because they couldn’t do as much as the whites.
The ‘free’ blacks in the north were not free enough with their political freedoms. They did not have the right to vote so they were not free with the whites; they also could not be president. Just because they were a different color the whites looked at them differently and they could not do anywhere near as much with them in the political fields. Therefore the ‘free’ blacks were not free enough, with the political they also could not do anything with the political freedoms such as being the legislative branch and other branches. With the political freedoms not being free enough the economic freedoms weren’t good either.
Furthermore, the economic freedoms were not free enough either. The ‘free’ blacks had a hard time owning their own property because they had a hard time getting a job because they were “different” because they were black and not the normal white. Just because they were a different color they had to be treated differently. They could barely get a job at the simplest place to work because they were ‘free’ but not free enough to this reason. With not being free enough in both the political and economic freedoms they were also not free enough in their social freedoms.
Lastly, the social freedoms that they had were no better than the economic and political. Their social life was not good at all, they couldn’t eat a restaurant with the whites, and they had to be put on the other side of the restaurant. The blacks couldn’t even go to church with the whites. The blacks had to have their own church built for them so that they could do what they wanted instead of learning the same ways of the whites with their religion ways.
In conclusion, the blacks were not free enough. They should have been able to do whatever a white man/ woman could do, but no, they had to have their own rules of being free. The free blacks in the north were not free enough. They should be able to do whatever as long as it was the same law abiding as the whites had. Therefore I believe that the free blacks were not free enough in the north because they had different rules than the whites had which I find not to be very fair.

Mother to Son Parody
Well, son, I'll tell you:| Well mom, I have no idea
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.| But so far with you gone life hasn’t been well
It's had tacks in it,| its had its ups and downs
And splinters,| and broken bones
And boards torn up,| and hearts ripped out
And places with no carpet on the floor --| and places where I don’t know where I am
Bare.| wet
But all the time| but I always
I'se been a-climbin' on,| will find a way to you
And reachin' landin's,| keep runnin’
And turnin' corners,| and fallin’ down
And sometimes goin' in the dark| and somethings gonna get lost
Where there ain't been no light.| there aint been nothing to lose
So boy, don't you turn back.| so mom, I hope you’re tryin’ to find me too
Don't you set down on the steps| don’t you fall down this dirt road
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.| cause if I find you
Don't you fall now --| you’ll find me
For I'se still goin', honey,| so lets not stop
I'se still climbin',| keep runnin’
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.| life aint been no paved road.
This is a parody about Samuel from Woods Runner that is talking to his mom. The speaker of the poem would be Samuel(the main character) talking to his mom about where she went and how he going to help. The audience is his mom listening to what he has to say about her leaving. The tone of the story would be more caring and sad because she left and he needs to help.

This is Just to Say Parodie
I have eaten| I haven’t found you,
the plums| in the house,
that were in| or in the rubble of what was our house.
the icebox| where are you?
and which| you could be dead,
you were probably| or captured by the natives.
saving| hoping,
for breakfast| for me to come help.
Forgive me| you can trust me,
they were delicious| I will find you,
so sweet| and bring you,
and so cold| to a new home, maybe.

Mother to Son
Mother to Son
Mother to Son is a great poem by Langston Hughes that has great figurative language in it. Some of the figurative language in this poem is “Life ain’t been no crystal stair” meaning that this person’s life hasn’t been very good and this quote goes deeper. This quote is meaning that the life of this person is nothing worth wile. Their life has been nothing compared to something like a crystal stair and they wish it was better.
“And sometimes goin' in the dark” is another metaphor from this piece meaning that something’s wont last a long time and disappear or go into the dark as is said in this quote. This poems tone is encouragement because she is encouraging her son not go give up and to stick with what you can and even though life gets hard don’t let it defeat you. The mood that this author was trying to set was more of a thinking mood, because this make you really think, what did she do to make it hard or why does she not stop, but the answer to these are in the writing.

Markof
Markof
By Brandon
Author note: I am writing to write a description on a character.
Most people look at me and turn and run in rear like a dog and a mail truck. I may look like somebody that could slaughter something as if he was a butcher but, yes it is true I could do that but I wouldn’t do it to some innocent person. Sure I’m taller than the average man, sure I’m not average looking but that give you no reason not to stay and talk with me. I am a nice guy, although I was thrown in prison for murder of a child but lets face it, we all drink in this city, we all have a bow and arrow, and those two don’t mix as well as venison and a sweet roll. People think of me as the life time killer because I killed somebody and I was sentenced to prison for life.
I don’t live like a normal person, I used t live out in the sticks where nobody would go, but now that I am in prison I don’t even know if it is there anymore. I may be in prison for this but now my mind is lost in a open sea of nothing. When I got in here I met this old man name Malcom, He showed me the way of nothingness which is what lead me to the sea of nothing. Our minds are lost at sea with now way out, and we like it like that. Other than that the guards told all the prisoners that there was going to be a dragon attack. Me and this old man was hoping for this because we figured that this would get out of here.
I am not that bad of a person, sure I accidentally killed her but other than that I am a good person. This old man told me that if this dragon attacks we may have a chance of killing it and we could get away. I am a warrior.

Author note: I am writing to write a description on a character.
As his name is awesome he too looks awesome. He is slightly taller than the average man, he is about 6 ½’ tall and weighs about 210lbs. He has no hair, a scraggly beard and mustache. He wears face paint around his eyes to look like blood and death from his eyes. He wears steal armor that is a chest plate, shoulder blades, gauntlets (for your hands), and full leg armor. It is silver with etched in “tribal” designs to look fancier.
Markof is the main character in the story “Beastblood” by Brandon Wegner, although he dies he is still the main character. He comes from no family, they died when he was just about 7 years old. He is a man that got his strength and courage from his loss of his family. That is how Markof looks and how he it as a person.
